Lovell is located 23 miles east of Park County Fairgrounds in Powell, Wyoming
Description- Educational Field trip- No collecting (On National Park Land). Will make 3 stops to talk about the Geology of Bighorn canyon that straddles the Wyoming-Montana Border.
Audience: Anyone; Good Family Trip
Who Can Come: No limit on Attendees. (Carpooling encouraged) Due to our insurance, Attendees must be a member of a club or society that belongs to the Rocky Mountain Federation of Mineralogical Societies. If you are not a member you can join a club at the show. You can sign up for the trip at the show.
Accessibility: All stops on paved roads. Short walks may be required.
What to bring: Water, snacks, sack lunch if desired, insect repellent (in case), jackets
There are restrooms available at each stop.
Leader- Mike Neville
Description- Gravels contain scattered Absaroka agates (transparent to white agates; some banded and other with manganese dendrites), colored jaspers; petrified wood and occasional limb casts. Depending on the site, there may be Cretaceous invertebrate fossils.
Time: 9:00 am - 1pm (or longer)

Accessibility: Well maintained gravel roads passable with a sedan. Road is all weather so a little rain will not be an issue. Some walking may be required.
What to bring: Bucket, water, snacks, sack lunch if desired, insect repellent (in case), jackets, rock hammer (optional)

Description: Collecting calcite crystals, maybe some Mississippian invertebrate fossils, some chert, cerussite, tyumanite, metatyunamite, hematite, aragonite, jasper. Opportunity to collect very nice dogtooth spar. Other collectable minerals may be present.
Time: 9:00 am - 5pm

Audience: Mineral Collectors and avid rockhounds. Hunting local is a reclaimed uranium mining area. Background levels of radiation are higher but not dangerous. Participants should be aware of higher background levels before deciding to come on trip.
Who Can Come: Number of attendees limited to~20. The number of vehicles will be limited so carpooling will be required. Preference given to out-of-town guests. They should call Greg Jones at 281.224.2694 or email at wyojones@ wyojones.com to sign up before the show.
Insurance: For insurance purposes must be a member of a club or society that belongs to the Rocky Mountain Federation of Mineralogical Societies. If you are not a member you can join a club at the show.
Accessibility: Long gravel and dirt road, rough in places, ruts mostly avoidable; small mud holes, high clearance vehicles needed. 4-wheel drive not necessary but a good choice.
What to bring: Water, snacks, sunscreen; sack lunch, jackets, collecting equipment; rock hammers; containers and packing materials to protect specimens.
There are no restrooms available at the collecting local.

Description: Collecting jaspers, agates, petrified wood, stromatolites; fossils corals from gravel beds. Selenite crystals and other minerals likely. Stops may also include Jurassic belemnites and oysters.
Time: 9:30 am - 3pm
Meeting Place: Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area Visitors Center on the east edge of Lovell, Wyoming. (See map at bottom of document).
